The Arbor Day Poster Contest began as a nationwide educational program for fifth grade students sponsored by the National Arbor Day Foundation. The art teachers in the Edmond Public Schools began participating in this program in 2001, sending one poster from each school to compete in the statewide contest. In 2011 the National Arbor Day Foundation ceased to administer the Arbor Day Poster Contest. The Edmond Urban Forestry Commission and Edmond Public Schools’ art teachers saw value in continuing this program at the local level. Hence the Arbor Day Art Show was created. Trees In Our Town is open to all fifth grade students in the Edmond area including those who are homeschooled as well as students attending public and private schools. The opening reception is Monday, March 20, 5:30-7:30 pm. The exhibit will be up from March 11 until April 29, 2017.
