Exhibit: Seals of Isaiah and King Hezekiah Discovered

Sun, June 10Sun, January 272018-06-102019-01-27 | Armstrong Auditorium14400 S. Bryant Rd, Edmond, OK 73034

Items on display will include nearly three dozen artifacts from the time of King Hezekiah, including the recently discovered royal seal impressions of King Hezekiah and Isaiah from the Ophel excavations, royal Judean clay vessels, and weapons used during the siege of Lachish. The exhibit will also feature key Assyrian history and will include replicas of such artifacts as the famous Annals of Sennacherib Prism (aka Taylor/Jerusalem/Oriental Prism), various other Assyrian inscriptions, and the famous Assyrian wall reliefs. “The stars of the show are the Hezekiah and Isaiah bullae,” said Brad Macdonald, curator of the exhibit. “But the supporting cast – the arrow heads from Lachish, Sennacherib’s prism, the Assyrian wall reliefs – is also pretty extraordinary. We will use maps, illustrations, interactive aids, and storyboards to connect all these articles and create what we believe will be a unique and moving experience.” Discovered by archaeologist Dr. Eilat Mazar of Hebrew University, the clay seals, called bullae, were found only one yard apart on the Ophel at the foot of the Temple Mount. According to their inscriptions, the seals belong to King Hezekiah of Judah, who ruled in the 8th century B.C. and Isaiah, possibly “the prophet.” “This is truly a historic exhibition. Artifacts from the Assyrian siege of Jerusalem have been exhibited previously, but these exhibits have never included the seals of King Hezekiah and Isaiah,” Macdonald said. “Visitors would have to travel to London, Jerusalem, Istanbul and Chicago to see everything on display. Here we’ve brought them all together in one place.” Edmond’s Herbert W. Armstrong College assists Dr. Mazar’s Temple Mount Ophel excavations and helped uncover both the Hezekiah and Isaiah, and now has the honor of hosting the world premiere."

He will be signing copies of his book, MURDER AT STONEHENGE, on Thursday, Dec. 13 beginning at 6:00 pm. After solving Easter Island's gruesome cannibalistic murders at the request of Chilean authorities, NYPD's star former detective now operates a PI business from the remote island. News of his good deeds travels fast, and Hawk is soon contacted by Scotland Yard to help solve killings at Stonehenge and the nearby town of Salisbury. He accepts the job and reluctantly leaves behind his Rapanui bride, Mahina, who has work of her own to undertake. She is asked by the aged Rapanui shaman, Tiare Rapu, to join her on an important but perilous journey—deep into the land of spirit. Husband, wife and shaman find themselves surrounded by dark forces as the grim specter of death steadily approaches. What is the answer to their dilemma? Is there one? Gary is an emergency and integrative physician, and his interests include Tibetan rights, meditation, the music of Joseph Haydn, organic gardening, choral work and wilderness hiking. Gary D. Conrad lives with his wife, Sheridan, and their dogs, Karma and Buddy, in Edmond, Oklahoma. Along with his wife and oldest daughter, Sarah, he visited Stonehenge in September 2013 and the Preseli Hills in Wales in March 2015 in order to do research for Murder at Stonehenge.

He will be signing copies of his book, DAUGHTER OF WAR, on Friday, Jan. 11 at 6:00 pm. DAUGHTER OF WAR is part of Taylor's PIKE LOGAN series. In order to reserve a line number for the event, you must pre-order a copy of DAUGHTER OF WAR online (https://www.bestofbooksok.com/event/brad-taylor-coming-best-books-jan-11) or by phone at (405) 340-9202. Hot on the trail of a North Korean citizen looking to sell sensitive US intelligence to the Syrian regime, Pike Logan and the Taskforce stumble upon something much graver: the sale of a lethal substance called Red Mercury. Unbeknownst to the Taskforce, the Syrians plan to use the weapon of mass destruction against American and Kurdish forces, and blame the attack on terrorists, causing western nations to reassess their participation in the murky cauldron of the Syrian civil war. Meanwhile, North Korea has its own devastating agenda: a double-cross that will dwarf the attack in Syria even as it lays the blame on the Syrian government. Leveraging Switzerland's fame for secrecy and its vast network of military bunkers, now repurposed by private investors for the clandestine storage of wealth, North Korea will use Red Mercury to devastate the West's ability to deliver further sanctions against the rogue regime. As the Taskforce begins to unravel the plot, a young refugee unwittingly holds the key to the conspiracy. Hunted across Europe for reasons she cannot fathom, she is the one person who can stop the attack--if she can live long enough for Pike and Jennifer to find her. Brad Taylor is the author of the New York Times bestselling PIKE LOGAN series. He served for more than twenty years in the U.S. Army, including eight years in 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment–Delta, commonly known as Delta Force. He retired as a Special Forces lieutenant colonel and now lives in Charleston, South Carolina.

YA Author Kiersten White Coming to Best of Books

She will be signing copies of her new book, SLAYER, on Friday, Jan. 18 at 6:00 pm. In order to reserve a line number for the event, you must pre-order a copy of SLAYER online (https://www.bestofbooksok.com/event/ya-author-kiersten-white-coming-best-books-jan-18) or by phone at (405) 340-9202. Into every generation a Slayer is born... Nina and her twin sister, Artemis, are far from normal. It's hard to be when you grow up at the Watcher's Academy, which is a bit different from your average boarding school. Here teens are trained as guides for Slayers--girls gifted with supernatural strength to fight the forces of darkness. But while Nina's mother is a prominent member of the Watcher's Council, Nina has never embraced the violent Watcher lifestyle. Instead she follows her instincts to heal, carving out a place for herself as the school medic. Until the day Nina's life changes forever. Thanks to Buffy, the famous (and infamous) Slayer that Nina's father died protecting, Nina is not only the newest Chosen One--she's the last Slayer, ever. Period. As Nina hones her skills with her Watcher-in-training, Leo, there's plenty to keep her occupied: a monster fighting ring, a demon who eats happiness, a shadowy figure that keeps popping up in Nina's dreams... But it's not until bodies start turning up that Nina's new powers will truly be tested--because someone she loves might be next. One thing is clear: Being Chosen is easy. Making choices is hard. Kiersten White Is the New York Times bestselling author of many books for teens and young readers, including AND I DARKEN, NOW I RISE, BRIGHT WE BURN, THE DARK DESCENT OF ELIZABETH FRANKENSTEIN and most recently, SLAYER. She lives with her family near the ocean in San Diego, where she perpetually lurks in the shadows. Visit Kiersten online at kierstenwhite.com and follow @kierstenwhite on Twitter.

First inspired to play guitar after hearing a fellow college student playing in a stairwell, Wilcox is now 18 records into a career marked by personal revelation and wildly loyal fans. His lyrical insight is matched by a smooth baritone voice, virtuosic guitar chops, and creative open tunings, giving him a range and tenderness rare in folk music.  Wilcox released an independent album in 1987, was a winner of the prestigious Kerrville Folk Festival New Folk award in 1988, and by 1989 he had signed with A&M Records. His first release on the label, How Did You Find Me Here, sold over 100,000 copies the first year largely by word of mouth. Considered a 'songwriter's songwriter', his songs have been covered by artists such as k.d. lang and many others.  In addition to his writing prowess, his skills as a performer and storyteller are unmatched.  He holds audiences rapt with nothing more than a single guitar, thoroughly written songs, a fearless ability to mine the depths of human emotions of joy, sorrow and everything in between, and all tempered by a quick and wry wit. Reflecting on well over 20 years of record-making and touring extensively around the US and world, Wilcox says, “Music still stretches out before me like the head-lights of a car into the night.  It’s way beyond where I am, but it shows where I’m going.  I used to think that my goal was to catch up, but now I’m grateful that the music is always going to be way out in front to inspire me.”

This includes the use of historical instruments (or modern replica), the knowledge of repertoire and how it was performed at the time (performance traditions). These performance traditions were not necessarily notated in the score, but have been identified through first hand literature such as treatises. The goal of the center is to increase our understanding and enjoyment of the music.

She began singing early on as a member of the Henry Mancini Chorus, which led to a successful career in the Los Angeles studios, where she appeared on countless film scores and recordings with such notable artists as Placido Domingo, Quincy Jones, and Michael Jackson. Her debut CD, simply titled Monica Mancini was the companion to her PBS television special, Monica Mancini: On Record. Monica released her fifth album I’ve Loved These Days - a collection of classic 60s songs featuring collaborations with Stevie Wonder, Brian Wilson, Jackson Browne, and Take 6, arranged for full orchestra. To celebrate the release of the USPS Henry Mancini Commemorative Postage Stamp, Monica kicked off an extensive 60-city tour, followed by sold-out concerts at Carnegie Hall, Disney Hall, Boston Symphony Hall and Tanglewood with John Williams and the Boston Pops.    The New York Times has described Mancini’s rich, expressive voice as “the glamorous vocal equivalent to diamonds flashing.” On her approach to interpreting a song, she says, “I always keep in mind the composers intention because I believe melodies and lyrics are crafted with a definite purpose. I want to bring out the beauty of the writer’s word through music.”   Composer John Williams writes: “Monica Mancini brings her talent, musicality and most of all, love to the music, and proves that the passage of musical genes didn’t stop with the Bachs, Strausses or Ellingtons!”

They’ve each stopped off to the land of “funk,” and laid bare their “soul” more times than can be counted. Equilibrium has sweated it out in a garage to make their harmonious echo and sharpened their musical consciousness in the discipline of Jazz. Using the sensual sounds of a seashell to compel their listeners, Equilibrium always seems to know how to satisfy their audience. Equilibrium is a union of hard-won experience with the simple desire to make people enjoy their story through the medium of music, the deepest expression of the human experience. Two of the members teach at the Academy of Contemporary Music at the University of Central Oklahoma and share their love for music with their students every day. Equilibrium is filled with diverse influences and talents with a common goal: challenging themselves to make music they love, and bring the audience on the journey with them. Jazz enriched but with a firm pop sensibility, Equilibrium makes heads turn by staying true to their soul/rock roots. They have opened for Ian Moore, Monte Montgomery, Johnny A., Morris Day, The Time, and the legendary B.B. King. They also closed the 2011 Edmond Jazz Festival in Edmond, OK, and were awarded the Oklahoma Gazette’s reader-voted “Woody” award for Best Jazz Band in 2009.
