“What are we doing today?”, “What are we doing tomorrow? And next Saturday?” Are common questions coming from the children in our house. At times the answer is “Nothing!”, but we are almost always up for an outing in Edmond and my kids know exactly what to ask for to get an easy “yes” from mom and dad. We value time, just being together and have several activities in Edmond our family enjoys - and for free!
We frequent the Edmond History Museum. My kids head straight to the kids area and enjoy the endless opportunities for pretend play. They explore the rest of the gallery and see what special exhibits are offered with kids activities. As they play, I browse and always leave with a new historical fact about Edmond that makes me all the more glad the museum and archives exist.
A Trip to the Edmond History Museum means we must play at Stephenson Park. The playground entertains my kids for an extended amount of time. I appreciate the comfortable seating for adults and the natural barrier between the park and parking lot and street. We’ve enjoyed the outdoor concert series while the kids play. It’s a great place to meet up with friends with many options for a meal or shopping within walking distance!
We play at the park year-round, we bundle up or lather on the sunscreen and go! There are more than thirty to choose from. We like Stephenson Park, Ted Anderson Hafer, Mitch, Beckham Rudkin and Whispering Heights. We also enjoy discovering parks tucked away in neighborhoods.
We can all agree on an adventure on the Spring Creek Trail (off 15th) and Central State Park Trail (off 2nd) surrounding Arcadia Lake. We’ve spent endless days there on foot, scooter and on bike. We love watching the seasons change and seeing the animal and plant life. Each trail has different offerings, a winding wooded multi use trail, bike trail, off road trails, and great views of the lake. My kids love the opportunity to toss a rock or dip a toe into the lake.
We intentionally slow down to appreciate Edmond’s public art collection, with more than 300 pieces. There are group and self guided tours available, and a steady paced walk through a park or downtown will offer great views.
Downtown Edmond is a great place to linger and explore. We attend the Farmer’s Market, monthly and seasonal festivals and special events, but also enjoy a stroll on any average day. We especially love the transformation Downtown undergoes for fall, Christmas and the Fourth of July. Downtown is truly a community gathering place where we are sure to run into friends and have great conversations.
It’s our goal as a family to value relationships, experiences, and time spent together. Edmond offers many opportunities for families and friends to relax, gather, and linger a little longer.
