The Uncommon Ground Sculpture Park is well underway to attract visitors along the Mother Road. The 64-foot Eagle’s Nest received $300,000 from the Oklahoma Route 66 Revitalization Grant. A 40-foot-tall, five-foot-diameter steel column was installed as the first piece of what will offer visitors a breathtaking 360-degree view of the surrounding landscape, including Route 66 and Arcadia Lake.
Award-winning architect Rand Elliott, known for another Route 66 Attraction, Pops 66 in Arcadia, designed the Eagle’s Nest using weather-resistant corten steel and pipe. The design draws inspiration from Oklahoma’s industrial heritage and the Cross Timbers landscape.
The tower will feature a secure spiral staircase leading to a main platform at 37 feet, with a lower accessible platform at 15 feet accommodating visitors of all abilities. Educational signage will detail Route 66’s rich history, while nighttime lighting will make the Eagle’s Nest visible for miles.
The 62-acre park, built on a former Arabian horse farm, has secured 75% of its $50 million construction budget through support from the City of Edmond, State of Oklahoma, local foundations and corporate sponsors. Upon opening, it will feature more than 60 sculptures, a children’s playground, dog park, Eagle’s Nest, Pavilions and a Tall Grass Stage for concerts. The Uncommon Ground Sculpture Park will be Oklahoma’s first public sculpture park and a significant tourism destination along historic Route 66. It will be Edmond’s 34th park and will be open for specific events in 2026 and open to the public in 2027.
